The Design Challenge Competition aims to inspire students and young innovators to develop creative, practical, and impactful solutions using 3D design, engineering, and medical innovation technologies.
It encourages participants to apply design thinking, digital modelling, and problem-solving to address real-world challenges in engineering and healthcare.
2. Objectives
Promote innovation and creativity in design and engineering.
Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between engineering, medical, and design students.
Showcase student-led innovations using 3D technologies.
Build awareness of digital design tools and additive manufacturing applications.
3. Who Can Participate?
Undergraduate and Postgraduate students from:
Engineering Colleges (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electronics, etc.)
Medical and Dental Colleges (for innovation in healthcare design)
Design and Architecture Schools
Polytechnic or Technical Institutes
Team Composition:
Each team may consist of 2–4 members (preferably multidisciplinary).
Teams must have a faculty mentor or guide.
4. Competition Structure and Programme
a) Concept Development -
Teams brainstorm and select a challenge topic under any of the categories:
3D Design and Modeling
Engineering Product Design
Medical Innovation
Submission of concept sketches and design briefs
Mentor review and feedback
b) Prototyping and Submission -
Teams develop digital 3D models or small-scale prototypes.
Submission of:
Design files (CAD / STL)
Concept presentation (2–3 slides)
Short write-up on innovation and feasibility.
c) Presentation of ideas before a panel of judges (industry and academic experts).
Evaluation based on:
Innovation (1- 5 points )
Feasibility & Functionality (1-5 points)
Design Quality & Detailing (1-5 points)
Presentation & Communication (1-5 points)
1 point being the lowest
5 point being the highest

Display of top designs in an exhibition during the main event

f) Selection Process
Online Registration:
Participants register as teams with project category and brief idea.
g)Preliminary Screening:
The organizing team shortlists eligible projects based on concept clarity and relevance.
h) Design Submission Round:
Teams submit design files, write-ups, and visuals before the deadline which is 31st March 2026.
i) Final Presentation:
Selected finalists Judging & Results:
Evaluated by an expert jury of academicians, industry specialists, and clinicians.

Terms & Conditions for participation :
1. Engineering College, Design institute, Design schools both Government and private are invited to participate.
2. Professionals who are designers across different disciplines that could be in Aero, Auto, Architecture, fashion, jewellery, Medical Devices and others are all invited to participate.
3. Participants will need to register by filling the below google registration form to showcase their design skills.
4. Last date for applying for the Design Challenge competition is 31st March.
5. The participants will need to make the creative work of design 3d printing for showcasing the practical application as a selection criteria on 28th & 29th May in the event.
6. The best design and work will be selected by the 3D GEM JURY MEMBERS to announce the winners on 29th May in the 3D GEM AWARDS 2026.
