Dr. Sumit Murab

Dr. Sumit Murab is an Associate Professor in the School of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India. He specialises in tissue engineering, biomaterials, 3D printing, bioprinting and the development of advanced biomaterial systems for medical applications. He leads the Translational Tissue Engineering Laboratory at IIT Mandi, which focuses on the interface of materials science and medicine.

Dr. Murab completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at IIT Delhi in 2017. He subsequently undertook postdoctoral research at Tufts University, USA, followed by research and academic work in Orthopaedic Surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, USA. He joined IIT Mandi in 2022 and became an Associate Professor in April 2026.

His research interests include bio-inspired materials, bone and cartilage tissue engineering, injectable biomaterials, 3D-printed scaffolds, bio-inks, dental regeneration and in-vitro disease models. His work aims to develop innovative biomaterial platforms that support tissue repair, regeneration and improved treatment approaches for orthopaedic conditions.

Through interdisciplinary research and collaboration, Dr. Murab contributes to advancing biomedical innovation and the application of additive manufacturing in healthcare, particularly in regenerative medicine and next-generation medical materials.
