Dr. Ravi Kannan

Dr. Ravi Kannan is a renowned surgical oncologist and Director of the Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (CCHRC), Silchar, Assam, widely recognised for his exceptional contribution to accessible and affordable cancer care in underserved communities.

After establishing a distinguished career in surgical oncology in Chennai, Dr. Kannan visited CCHRC in 2006 and witnessed the challenges faced by cancer patients in the Barak Valley and surrounding regions. Motivated by the need to make quality cancer treatment accessible to all, he relocated to Silchar with his family and dedicated his professional life to serving disadvantaged communities.

Under his leadership, CCHRC has grown from a small healthcare facility into a comprehensive cancer care institution, expanding its capacity and services while emphasising patient dignity, affordability and compassionate treatment. Its holistic approach includes cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, palliative care, education and research.

Dr. Kannan's extraordinary service has earned him several prestigious honours, including the Padma Shri in 2020 and the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2023, recognising his commitment to equitable healthcare and social impact.
