Dr. Ravi B

Prof. B. Ravi is a distinguished academician, mechanical engineer, researcher and innovation leader, currently serving as the Director of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal. He is widely recognised for his contributions to manufacturing technology, computer-aided design, metal casting simulation, medical device innovation and technology entrepreneurship.

Prof. Ravi completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela in 1986 and earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in 1992. Before assuming the directorship of NITK in 2023, he served for more than three decades at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he held several academic and research leadership positions.

His research expertise includes metal casting design and simulation, manufacturing process optimisation, computer-aided engineering, biomedical engineering and medical device development. He founded the prototyping centre and E-Foundry initiatives at IIT Bombay and contributed to innovation programmes supporting the development and commercialisation of indigenous technologies. His work has helped bridge academic research, industrial manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

As Director of NITK, Prof. Ravi promotes research excellence, industry collaboration, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology development. His leadership emphasises connecting education and research with practical industrial and societal needs.

His contributions to manufacturing technology and medical device innovation make him an important contributor to India's advanced manufacturing and engineering research ecosystem.
